SENET or THE GAME OF PASSING - -
One of the oldest board game ever recovered. Senet is a fast paced, 2 player race game in which you’re trying to save your soul while jumping along the Nile (at least in this featured version)
GRAND TOUR OF GAMES
In this path you will find the most complex and studied games of the MET, a lot of references have been retrieved and important scholars have spend years researching and understanding the rules of the majority of it. Games in this section are mostly from the Egyptian, Sumerian, Greek and Roman era.
GAMES OF 20 SQUARES
Possibly an imported version of the Mesopotamian Royal Game of Ur, usually to be found at the bottom of the box that was used for Senet, this 2player game is even more fast and brutal than the game of Passing.
HOUNDS AND JACKALS (or the Game of 58 holes)
The younger evolution of all the previous board games, a 2 players race game with some yet to be understood rules, but for sure it looks like a lot of fun!
EPHEDRISMOS
From antique Greece comes a street game that mixed (and influenced) classics like Kick the Can or LeapFrog.
Played extensively by girls and dominated by their skills of accuracy and orientation?
SPORTS
Although mentions of competitive sports are more antique that the Greek Panathinaikos Games, they were the one pushing these pastimes to the Olympus and history with the institution of Gymnasium, an adoration for athletes and the solidification of different disciplines.
ASTRAGALOI
After the Egyptians throwing sticks here are another predecessor of our dice, a randomizer with 4 possible outcomes (not symmetrical), originally a bone from the ankle of a sheep and then being replicated in the most various materials. Not only dice but also great for playing Jacks and other dexterity games.
CHESS
Elephants, horses and chariots: a real battle was the one in the first games of chess! With multiple legends (and artifacts about it) explaining the invention of it, still one truth is inexcapable, from its inception this board game had remained almost the same for centuries becoming probably the board game par excellence in the West.
WEIQI or GO
The surrounding game (圍棋) and its origin in China, it’s a hymn to abstraction and complexity: one kind of piece (called a stone), two colors, a board with simple lines, infinite variations!
A pastime that was able to have Generals forget about battles and wars, pervasive in all the East up to the present day.
BACKGAMMON
While the legends want this game to be invented, if we look closely at the rules we can almost feel how its origins are very close to the race games of Egyptian and Mesopotamian creations.
Backgammon (together with dominoes) still enjoys great success in Mediterranean countries of the East and central Asia.

DICE, DICE and MORE DICE! - -
Aren’t we fascinated by randomness? Dice of various shapes and sides are everywhere at the MET: 4 sided, pyramidal, with a throwing box (Yathzee style) or even 20 sided (ready for some D&D action!)
